Mallard Cottage to Reopen in June 2026
New Co-Ownership and Visionary Local Leadership
Quidi Vidi, NL – Wednesday April 8, 2026
One of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most iconic and beloved culinary destinations is preparing to welcome guests once again. Mallard Cottage will officially reopen in June 2026, marking the beginning of an exciting new era for the historic Quidi Vidi landmark.
Set within one of the most picturesque and culturally significant communities in the province, Mallard Cottage’s reopening represents far more than the return of a restaurant. It signals the revival of a place deeply woven into the story of Quidi Vidi and Newfoundland and Labrador itself.
At the heart of this next chapter is Blair McIntosh, owner of Mallard Cottage, who has fulfilled a long-held vision of assembling an extraordinary group of seasoned, passionate, and highly accomplished local Newfoundland stakeholders whose reputations and track records speak for themselves. More than trusted collaborators, these individuals have joined as co-owners of the restaurant, united by a shared belief in the future of Mallard Cottage and a deep commitment to preserving and elevating one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most treasured establishments.
“This is a very special and deeply meaningful moment,” said Blair McIntosh. “I have long believed that Mallard Cottage deserves a team of exceptional and distinctive entrepreneurial leaders, operators, and creative minds from the province – a team that not only understand the significance of this place, but who also have the experience, passion, and vision to elevate it with authenticity and care. I am thrilled that this outstanding group has come together, and I am especially proud that they have joined as co-owners in this remarkable venture. Together, we are building something that honours the past while creating an exciting new future for one of the most unique dining destinations in North America.”
The restaurant will be operated by co-owners Mark Murphy and Eldon Murray, owners of The Postmaster’s Bakery and Postmaster’s House Bed & Breakfast, both widely respected for their craftsmanship, hospitality, and deep-rooted connection to the community.
“Mallard Cottage has held a special place in Newfoundland and Labrador’s dining landscape for many years,” said Eldon Murray. “Our goal is to protect that legacy while moving the experience forward in a way that feels natural and true to this extraordinary place.”
Under their stewardship, the restaurant will embrace a philosophy of refinement rather than reinvention — building on Mallard Cottage’s enduring strengths, re-establishing its identity, and ensuring it continues to play a meaningful role in the evolving culinary tradition of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The guest experience will reflect that vision through a distinctly Newfoundland and Labrador-inspired culinary lens — thoughtful, ingredient-driven cuisine influenced by the province’s rich culinary heritage and the finest ingredients its land and sea have to offer, paired with warm, polished hospitality and an intimate atmosphere shaped by the historic character of the building itself.
“We want every guest experience to feel deeply connected to Newfoundland and Labrador — elevated, memorable, and genuine,” said Mark Murphy. “Mallard Cottage is not just a restaurant. It is a place with soul, history, and emotion. We are honoured to help bring that spirit to life through food, service, and hospitality that feels both exceptional and welcoming.”
The historic property’s restoration and redesign are led by nationally acclaimed designer Susan Drover, owner of SAM Design, Dwell by SAM and co-owner of the Mallard Cottage who is helping shape the renewed Mallard Cottage experience to ensure it is both respectful of the building’s heritage and beautifully aligned with its future vision.
“Our approach has been to preserve the authenticity and emotional character of Mallard Cottage while creating a space that feels fresh, elegant, and inviting,” said Susan Drover. “It was important that the design reflect the charm, history, and spirit of Quidi Vidi, while also supporting a dining experience of the highest calibre.”
The thoughtful renovations reimagine the space in a way that celebrates the building’s historical significance while introducing an atmosphere of understated sophistication, warmth, and contemporary refinement. Every detail has been guided by a commitment to historic authenticity, strong regional identity, exceptional hospitality, and culinary excellence.
As anticipation builds toward the June reopening, Mallard Cottage will be sharing updates, behind-the-scenes previews, and additional details in the coming weeks, including reservation information, menu previews, and special opening announcements.
The reopening of Mallard Cottage is expected to be one of the most exciting culinary moments in Newfoundland and Labrador in 2026 — a thrilling return of a cherished institution, led by an exceptional team of Newfoundland and Labrador owners and operators, and inspired by a bold and heartfelt vision for the future.
